I suspect it’s partly because gay men are the only ones they feel can rape them, treat them as sexual objects the way they treat women. Don’t think I’ve ever met a serious homophobe who wasn’t also a serious misogynist.

For a while in the ‘90’s, I worked in downtown Minneapolis, a city where most of the significant buildings are connected by second level skyways that act as foot traffic corridors throughout downtown. I used to use the skyways to walk at lunchtime. I’d notice that whenever there was a pretty woman in front of me, she’d be getting dressed down by many of the men coming our way. A couple times I started giving them the dress down look back and they wouldn’t notice it until the woman had passed by, and it jolted them to be ‘cruised’ by a 6’ 200lb balding and bearded man. I thought it was pretty funny at the time.
