re: #226 Cannadian Club Akbar

In Florida, if a hurricane is 2-3 days away you’d think the world was coming to an end. Home Depot is swamped. Publix is swamped. I would start getting supplies in April/May. Just an extra gallon of water a week and an extra can of ravioli and so on. When season ended I would give the food to a food bank (usually the USPS food drive) and drink the water.

‘round here, the folks who really have to worry are in one of three groups: Live on the beach, live on the Peninsula, or live in a low-lying area. The first and third have to deal with storm surge, the second has to deal with the initial brunt of landfall, and all three have to deal with utilities being down for extended periods. If you live in the burbs, like I do, then the worst you have to worry about is falling tree branches, the brief (1-2 day max) power outages, and the general media hysteria.
