re: #228 allegro

So it eliminates your period as well? Very cool! That was one of the best things about my hysterectomy. The other, in hindsight, is that I’m growing increasingly convinced that it has saved me from breast cancer. Both my mom and her identical twin sister had breast cancer and so did both of my twin aunt’s daughters, my cousins and both quite young. In all cases, it appears that estrogen played a very large role.

It is a possible side effect of the Mirena, not a guarantee. I don’t mind this side effect. This side effect is up there with kittens and rainbows.

It throws the doctors off though when I go and they ask when my last period was and I can’t remember but I am pretty sure it was 6 years ago. (Note to our male Lizards: this is standard so they can figure out if there’s some possibility you are pregnant. Some places just skip to giving you a cup to pee in for a pregnancy test right away.)

Breast cancer in my family tends to be post-menopause, at least.
