Useless trivia: a lot of the add on parts to the Millennium Falcon (I am currently building a 1:1 replica of the model used in the Empire Strikes Back ) used Tamiya model parts. Lore says that the original model builders would collect parts sprues from a nearby packaging facility to use as external components on the fuselage.

Many of the models used in film and TV were made by model-bashing. That would be a fun job — hanging around stores selling model kits, buying what you need, and mix and matching pieces to make a one-of-a-kind ship — or whatever.

Or you can “cheat” and use CGI.
