re: #222 HappyWarrior
Mine is pretty simple. My Dad’s family all emigrated from Germany and Ireland to Pennsylvania ranging from the 1790’s through the outbreak of the war. A lot of my German relations are Hessians though so maybe I have a way back uncle that served in the Revolution and stayed here after that. I honestly don’t know. Mom’s family has only been here since the early 20th.
My family has all been here since before the Revolutionary War. Many of them served in it, and yes, I have a little Hessian blood in me, too.
re: #227 HappyWarrior
Ever since I hit some brickwalls with my family, I’ve started to research my cousin and another cousin’s husbands family. Just astounds me how far back some people’s families can be traced. I shouldn’t complain. I can trace back my surname nine generations.
The only major brick wall I hit is the one around the aforementioned relative. The documentary trace actually ends with him, and I have to rely heavily on informed speculation to guess at his ancestors. On every other branch of my family tree, I have managed to trace all the way back to the European roots.
