So many of the historical ignorant forget that the Jews weren’t the first targets of the Nazis. Yes, the antisemitism was prominent in the rise of the Reich, but their original stated enemies were the communists. Which is how they came to power, as a counterpoint to the rising fear of a communist rebellion in Germany like that which had turned Russia into the USSR. Many a Jew voted for the Nazis thinking that they were only going after the communists and would never turn the tools of the state against them.

Right. Nobody STARTS OUT saying, “Hey, I think we should kill all the Jews, and while we’re at it, the Gypsies, Homosexuals, Communists, Unionists, and anyone else we don’t like.” They start out with ‘Enemies of the State’ and ‘The Enemy Within’, and work their way up.
