The Democratic-Republican Party wasn’t super concerned with universal suffrage either, to be fair. There were probably more abolitionists among the Federalists (like Hamilton and Franklin) than Democratic-Republicans
Was Franklin a Federalist as he died in 1790 before the two parties really took fold. Not nitpicking because you’re right about the Federalists actually having more abolition and slavery opponents in their ranks. You can add John Adams to that too.
