I get confused when I’m using my computer versus using my typewriter. Two spaces? One? Screw it and just start a new line for each sentence?

My former book publisher put out a style rule saying the Oxford comma should not be used. That resulted in every editor and copyeditor in the company saying “no.”

Several years ago at my job, we had a huge blowup over one space or two in our reports, to the point that one of my coworkers wrote a report that explained how proportional spacing worked and that we should only have to use one space after a period. It didn’t matter, the boss wanted two spaces. I set up a macro in Word that I’d run after completing a report to insert the required extra space.

As for the Oxford comma, I went to journalism school and we were told not to use it. However, if Rees-Mogg is going to take that position, I’m going to make a point of using the Oxford comma. I don’t want to be like him in *anything*, he’s that repulsive.
