Trichinosis is the most likely explanation. Some poor schmuck ate an undercooked pork chop back during the Neolithic Age and that left one hell of an impression, namely, that the animal was somehow cursed and anyone who ate its flesh would certainly die as a result of that curse.

The stringent prohibition on lobster would explain some poor schmuck who ate one without cooking it alive.

Now I’m thinking, who was the first person to think, Hey, if we boil this sucker alive maybe we can eat it and not throw up!
