Hybrids are one thing — but fully electric cars are not going to be a practical replacement for gas vehicles until they can be recharged in 10 minutes or so. Having to take even a half hour at a gas station to recharge makes these vehicles far less attractive for the normal customer. Of course, if the range between recharging could be significantly extended, the inconvenience factor would be reduced.

Whatever happened to the plan to have standardized batteries that you could just swap out at a recharging station and basically just pay for the charge? That would take no longer than filling up.
