Okay, I’ll take the unpopular position around here and say that I really like Sullivan. Even when I disagree with him (not infrequently), I find him bold and I like his willingness to give voice to a wide range of opinions from all quarters. His commitment to putting dialogue and debate at the forefront — ahead of ideology or tribalism — is a much-needed trait these days.

I also think the “racism” charge against him is lazy and undeserved, despite his poor decision to give credence to the arguments of The Bell Curve. While there are many white people out there who pretend to be about “just asking questions” when they are really just racist, that does not fit Sullivan at all. In his case, I think he really is just that committed to ideas, wherever they might lead him.

That said, sometimes he could be a real drama queen…
