The social psychology guy that NPR has on from time to time (or maybe itβs Marketplace) discussed research into how the brain allows lying to become habitual (like anything) as the neurological consequences such as feelings of guilt and discomfort diminish with repetition. Iβd say that by the time one is 70 the brain of the habitual liar has no way of distinguishing truth from lies anymore.
