Like with the Scottish Independence Referendum, which also left too many open questions, but was turned down at the time because it would have meant leaving the EU and having to apply for membership.

Brexit, like the Trump campaign, was just a blank canvas on which people could project their wishes of what they wanted the UK to look like; free of foreigners, with “UK first” trade deals, etc…

Which, in all honesty, makes me very sad. There are people all over the world hurting over right-wing policies (austerity, austerity, austerity) and a full-blown propaganda machine supporting the people who hurt the most. I understand why people vote against their interests, and I understand why people voted for Trump. Desperation is an unpleasant bedfellow.

Alas, we have a dumbed-down population and a reality show government (notice that trump’s new attorney is a radio show host. which just adds to the fact that so many people surrounding trump are in that Hollywood arena in some fashion.
