Same thing with SSI/Disability, and even UI. You may be pleasantly surprised at what you are eligible for, and at worst, you are in the system. This is especially true for performers and other free-lancers. Depending on age, you just may have enough credits (if over 61) to collect at age 62, may actually qualify for disability, or even collect UI from various states. In any event, you are in the system. Also, if you have ever worked for Uncle Sam, you may have some pension money to collect as well.

I’ve tried and failed to collect SSDI. The problem was after I left the Navy with my “unemployable” rating from the VA for epilepsy, I got a job working in a corporate-owned McDonalds, and worked just long enough to chalk up one-quarter’s FICA tax.

Social Security in my application and appeal denied me. I cannot afford a lawyer to take them on, so unlike most disabled vets I do not collect it.

I have no pension. I do collect VA disability compensation.

My wife just brought me poutine with red eye gravy.
