I really like Boehlert, and I haven’t read the opinion piece by Bullock, but I agree with the sentiment in Bullock’s tweet instead of what I think was a near miss by Eric. It’s not enough to fix the roads and build Broadband in rural America. There has to be a huge PR campaign around it that would include, yes, discussions in diners about why it’s the Democrats who get shit done.

Yeah, but what neither guy seems to want to face (and what SO many politicians and political commentators tiptoe around), is that the real “appeal” to so (too) many of those “rural” voters is that Republicans make their main political pitch by pandering to peoples’ prejudices and painting their opponents as “enemies” implacably hostile to them and their entire “culture”. So pointing out that Democrats “get shit done” - however true it is, and however much gets done, isn’t going to garner many votes when the other side’s appeal is mostly to simply paint the Ds as communist atheist baby-killer race-traitors….
