“Bonnie Prince Charlie” was half Polish, being the son of James Stuart, the “Old Pretender”, and Clementina Sobieska, granddaughter of Jan Sobieski, King of Poland.

And the custom of wearing a clan tartan (one that had never existed in ancient Scotland), was introduced in the early 1800’s by two Scottish impostors, claiming to be bastard sons of Bonnie Prince Charlie, who foisted a forged book on ancient Gaelic clothing to a willing romantically inclined public.

I did know about the Tartans being relatively new but not about them being introduced by royal pretenders.
