If I lived in Arizona again, I would probably own a .22 pistol loaded with snake shot (basically mini-shotgun shells) to scare off any rattlesnakes I could not get out of the way of quickly enough. But for no other purpose than that.

Yah, that’s the only reason I’d own a weapon — if I moved out in the boondocks somewhere. My sister and her husband live in the mountains, and they keep guns, partly to handle bears or cougars that might come sniffing around the doors, and partly because law enforcement is generally 30-60 minutes away.
