Dear God, why?

The stories I’ve read from survivors, the testimonials from Hugh Thompson Jr., the photos of the aftermath, how the fuck could anyone rationalize this? Just because it was men in our uniform that it’s okay to commit atrocities on this scale?

I just can’t wrap my head around how anyone could make excuses by saying “war is Hell” or “they were frustrated with being there”.

This is the reason why Vietnam War veterans did not receive a warm welcome after they came back from serving in SE Asia. Instead of placing blame on Jane Fonda or the antiwar activists, it would be wise to place blame on Lt. Calley and the pieces of trash who committed an unspeakable act of barbarity that caused the tide to turn.

To make matters worse, there were photos of American soldiers actually slaughtering the villagers, but they were destroyed.

We firebombed cities during WW2 as well.

The reason Vietnam soldiers didn’t get a warm welcome was because we didn’t win in Vietnam. We love a winner. When they don’t win, it doesn’t matter if it was an unwinnable war, or a poorly planned one, the soldiers lost it.
