I agree that nuance is lost. And, while I agree that immigration is giving racists something to rally around, getting immigration under control isn’t going to slow the racists down. I think her focus should have been more toward continuing to improve programs that take care of citizens as well as immigrants, not declare that they need to be acknowledged.

Will that shut up those stirring up the nationalists thinking? Because they don’t really care about saving the current citizens that don’t meet their desires either let alone allowing others.

It is hard to be reasonable with those that won’t reason. I think she was trying to look for ways to deal with the unreasonable. We are at that point. And in a democracy when reason exits what do you have?

For sure political ideals die because they rely on cooperation.
