Honestly, having tried to talk sense into a couple of WV folks, I figure Manchin is very limited in his range of freedom of action.

Remember, WV is one of the if not THE whitest, and Trumpiest states in the Union. There are almost no black people or immigrants, and most of the people there have no interaction with black or brown or LGBT or Muslim people, so with their beliefs unsullied by actual knowledge, they will tell you they know more than you do about all of them.

They are not only ignorant, they are proudly ignorant. Any attempt to educate them will be met with even harsher ignorance.

Manchin’s seat is tenuous because he’s walking a tightrope, and if we didn’t have him we’d have someone TRULY representative of the arrogant ignorance of most of his constituents.

so interestingly they have very strong opinions and want to influence national policy about issues that dont directly affect their lives much if at all
