Yep. If not for finding my third great grandmother’s death record, I wouldn’t know who her parents were and with the parents listed, I was able to find a cousin who has them. His second great grandfather was third great grandmother’s brother and he stayed in Ireland unlike thrid great grandmother. Interestingly enough, both lived long lives and died within a year of each other in the early 1900’s after having lived to be in their late 80’s.

My kin, half Irish, half German, came over in the late 19th century. Easy Peasy to trace. Kelly/Murphy on may Da’s side, Lambertz/Helwig on my Ma’s.

Three of my eight great grands died in the Spanish flu, along with a dozen extended family members, many of them young. My Da’s only brother, Jimmy, died of Scarlet fever in the late 20’s.

Hard times.
