My Trumpster brother seems to have bought the whole Ron Paul bit: we don’t get involved any place unless we are directly attacked. So let’s not care about the rest of the world at all. We need a powerful military so no one is willing to attack us — the rest of the world can take care of itself.

As early as 1980, an officer at Camp Casey could explain “We’re not here to protect South Korea, we’re here to keep the South from going north and starting WWIII.” I suspect a good bit of that thinking was current in the 7th Army in FRG as well.
