No Christian has ever been persecuted for being a Christian in the US.

in Colonial times, and really the early days of the U.S. — there actually was serious persecution of minority denominations by the majority denomination. Each State had an official religion, and the Anglicans were pretty nasty to the Baptists, Catholics, Quakers, etc. The whole reason there’s a Rhode Island is because Roger Williams had theological differences with the Massachusetts colony’s Official Religion.

That’s why the 1st Amendment was needed; our Founders were well aware of the 30 years war, the 100 years war, the English civil wars, and more than a thousand years of other Christian Sect A v. Christian Sect B wars that soaked all of Europe in blood.
