A casual note to all lizards: Where did you learn the word and concept ‘taqqiya’? Who told you about it? Did any of you learn it from a source that does not trace back to the work of Robert Spencer?

Y’know I googled it a couple of weeks ago and was hard pressed to find any definition that didn’t lead back to his work. I found a couple that were partially accurate (which is just as bad, IMO) and several that conflated the shia version of taqiyya with the much more widespread (and traditional) Sunni version.

In the end, I was unable to find ANY version that was 100% correct. At that point I spoke with an Islamic scholar to make sure my own understanding of it was well-grounded. I actually learned a couple of things from him about it (no surprise there). I’ve got about half the content for an LGF page on it prepared, so I guess I really need to get with the program and get that posted this weekend.
