TLC was started as an educational channel to bring culture and education to the Tennessee valley and mid-south area.

Something happened along the way.

In the words of P. T. Barnum, “No one ever went broke underestimating the case of the American public.”

The corollary is that plenty of people have gone broke overestimating it.

TLC decided not to be broke.
