This would be a good test case for completely removing the idea of ‘accidental’ firearm discharge from the law.

If we’re really stuck with this idea of gun rights, then corresponding responsibilities need to be rigorously enforced.

Any accidental death should be charged as manslughter and any injury or “close call” should be charged as “risk of injury to a child” and DCF should remove the children and charge the parent with neglect.
