This is why I harp on and on about the SBC.

I hadn’t realized the “Johnson” there was Lyndon…

And knowing how LBJ worked, he probably sold his Amendment to liberals as a way to minimize the influence of segregationist wingers, and to conservatives as a way to minimize the influence of the Catholic Church.
