Belated thanks for the correction: I dashed off #84 off the top of my head: I had forgotten the B. Harrison/Cleveland dance: but can’t imagine how I spaced Gerald Ford.

Though I wouldn’t include Arthur on that list: his efforts for re-nomination in 1884 were (by most accounts) half-hearted: he was not all that popular in the GOP, and was also fairly unwell with kidney disease. The rest were all active incumbents running for reelection: so 9. Let’s keep up a grand old American tradition, and make it 10 this year…..

Odd fact: I found out President Chester Arthur’s NYC home - where he lived, was sworn in , and where he died - is a block or so away from where I live. Even without the Indian market occupying most of it, it’s a fairly undistinguished building. Fitting for a fairly undistinguished President, I suppose.
