Look at tirerack.com or Consumer Reports for all season/winter tires that work well with trucks. Chains work only under hardpack snow conditions, not necessarily slush. Winter tires are better suited for winter conditions, but since you’re talking about a storage issue, better all weather tires might make a difference. Check inflation and tread depth to make sure that you’re not running underinflated or without sufficient tread depth.
