Anyhow it pays to invest in your citizenry. Look at the GI BIll in the 50’s. Furthermore there are plenty of smart kids who have a hard time affording college. That’s not right. The status quo obviously isn’t working and I appreciate Sanders at least trying to come up with a solution.

And students don’t pick the most challenging or interesting university or college and instead pick the one that’s closest to home so they can defer some of the costs.
