re: #206 Blind Frog Belly White
This.
There’s gonna be a lot more of this shit. A lot of it is going to be shit that guys shouldn’t have done, in situations where they didn’t realize just how bad it was - which I figure is the situation with Franken. Tossing him off the boat at this point establishes a precedent we might later wish we hadn’t set.
I almost wish we could just let women all tell their stories, and THEN, once we get it all out in the open, we can start deciding who deserves more serious punishment than public shaming. But more importantly, when we men realize the depth and extent of the problem, maybe we can start not being the problem so much.
Yes! I see the Franken thing as a learning opportunity for both men and women because it screams to me of miscommunication. A lot of that miscommunication is actually culturally mandated. Women are squishy about clearly setting boundaries because we aren’t really allowed to do that, are we. We’re trained from birth to be submissive and less than. Be sweet. Smile, baby. Let it go. Boys will be boys. That’s the price of playing in the Big Boys’ league. Selling your soul is empowerment (unfortunately it really is for women).
Men are likewise trained in ways you guys can tell me. I know what I observe but I won’t try to tell your story. I would be very, very interested to hear it.
