Yeah, especially looking at cases vs. deaths in the US you see that the proportions are a lot different in the second (and so far third) surges.

The thing is, this only works until the hospitals get overwhelmed. And (in the US) part of the mortality problem in the first surge was NYC got moderately overrun.

I’m a little skeptical about whether the second surge was actually bigger than the first given hospitalization numbers, but the curves are headed to bad places right now.
