re: #219 theheat

FWIW, it took me three years to pass 1st year algebra. I was reading college level since grade school and a straight A English student until I graduated. I was on the president’s honor roll, dean’s list, and my work was in galleries my first year in art school.

Please don’t make math a requirement to vote. Not all of us are wired that way, but that doesn’t necessarily make us stupid. (Just not who you’d trust to do your taxes or balance a checkbook.)

But you passed it. More importantly, you saw the value of doing so.

I have seen, over 6,000 students in the course of my career.

I have met exactly three that I felt would never be able to do basic math no matter how hard they tried.

I have heard all sorts of people, who claimed they weren’t wired or that they would never get it, but all of them eventually got it when given the right teaching and enough encouragement.

The problem is not with the students nearly as often as it is with a legacy of abysmal math education.

Please remember that everything I wrote has to do with people having a fair education available first.
