Well, it looks like Senator Cruz, the guy whose wife was dragged through the mud by Mr. Trump and was slandered that his father participated in President Kennedy’s assassination, seems to have lined right up behind Mr. Trump as a good little apparatchik.

This looks an awful lot like trying to slide the idea in there with “lower level functionaries,” and if the idea blows up Mr. Trump’s team can claim that was all Gov. Abbott’s and Sen. Cruz’s idea. (I’m guessing Trump’s team knew about it before it happened.)

Quite likely. Cruz and Abbott are both trying to ride Trump coattails.
