He had a lot of GOP help (and maybe the NRA).

Not all Republicans knew anything about this, I’m sure. But the ones in charge (McConnell, Ryan, Michael Cohen, &c), I can’t imagine how they couldn’t. Their cover would be crucial to get past all this. Trump himself is a useful idiot. It’s the other leading conservatives that would have run interference and a cover up.

Let’s never forget that McConnell was the guy who promised scorched-earth GOP partisan warfare in response to any attempt by the Obama administration to publicize the Russia-elections issue in 2016.

With the benefit of hindsight, this was another instance in which Obama should have told the Republicans to fuck off.
