Kevin McCarthy says that Republicans will run their own investigation into the insurrection instigated by the leader of their party

Can the minority party set up an independent Congressional investigation of any kind or is this just a political party operation funded by the voters of their party? I would hope that none of this qualifies for taxpayer money from the federal government.
