I keep looking at the list of US school shootings on Wiki and maybe I’m crazy, but I personally think the argument in favor of gun-free zones is strengthened by looking at that list than weakened. If you narrow the search to 3 or more deaths (definition I heard of a “massacre” elsewhere) and to the years since the Gun Free Zone Act’s passage in ‘94, one thing you don’t see is any major cities. Cities that have schools that are practically demilitarized zones with chain-link fences, barred windows, bulletproof glass, metal detectors, and security cameras don’t show up. The majority of incidents are colleges, which are generally not the best places to find emotionally stable people, and small town schools where the most security you’ll find is locks on the outside doors and perhaps a camera or two. Hell, in one case involving 4 deaths in ‘98, the guns never even came on school property, because the shooters were sniping students from the woods.
