Well, the NSA was the one who took the information that they weren’t filtering to the court. The court didn’t swoop down and intervene, they reported and the court made a ruling.
The Wired article is better than most in that they give the absolute figures— 56,000 emails. It’s not terrible. But disinformation is so rife on this that I think Wired should be correcting misperceptions a lot more than they are— NPR should be too, for that matter.
