re: #238 goddamnedfrank

The biggest reason for Obama honoring the Bush withdrawal timeline, aside from Iraq being a colossal shit show, was that Al Maliki refused to grant any remaining US troops prosecutorial immunity from Iraq law.

I haven’t heard a single convincing argument from conservatives that this should have been ignored, or how it could have been circumvented. They simply assert without evidence or specifics that Obama could have somehow twisted Maliki’s arm into granting immunity, but that he didn’t try hard enough. They never describe what Obama should have done to accomplish this incredibly idiotic goal.

Oh, if I wanted to dig, I’d find articles from wingnuts from back in the day, screaming that Obama didn’t “do enough” to secure an SOFA with Maliki, that he hadn’t made enough phone calls, not had enough meetings, not made enough offers/threats, and more than a few completely missing the point to declare that Bush would have secured that SOFA with immunity included and that was proof that Obama wasn’t up to snuff.
