I think we’re seeing the breaking point. Trump has never been a “real Republican,” and this voter fraud panel is stepping way over the bounds for the “states’ rights” Republicans and their libertarian fellow travelers. It’s a big government power grab writ large.
I’m not sure you’re right, Charles: voter suppression initiatives (under the BS rubric of “fraud”) have been a hallmark of Republican states’ regimes for years: I think it’s more likely that the recent Pence-Kobach Crusade is just too blatant, too non-credible, and (not coincidentally) too obviously steps on too many state laws. Which, of course, a competent Administration would have thought about going in, but then….
I’m guessing that after a majority of states tell P & K to get bent for now, their Committee is going to simply keep at: it: only behind the scenes - and then spring their program of purges and suppression on the country via Executive Order or something.
