The “Texans” name has a bit of history.
The original Texans were created by Lamar Hunt from the old AFL days (what are now the Kansas City Chiefs were originally the Dallas Texans), as well as the Houston team from the World Football League in the 1970s.

IIRC the Texans ownership paid Hunt for the name so they could use it.
