Honest question - why are people so stuck on the word ‘lie’? This is starting to feel like “Obama never used the word ‘Terrorism’!”

Which was a lie by conservatives then as well. Obama did use the word, and more than once. Calling a lie something else is straight out of the propaganda playbook.

No. It’s an important difference and why Trump is so different from all the other lying politicians. Lying politicians are generally careful about it. They shade the truth, or use turns of phrase to convey the wrong impression, and if found out they hide behind those. They are limited by their fear of exposure.

Trump is not limited by any fear of being found out. He doesn’t care if what he says is true or not. He’s not tethered to reality as liars are. This is a big difference.

We have terms for that. You even called it: Lying politicians. Shading the truth, using terms of phrase to convey the wrong impression, &c are also weaker terms than the one which actually describes that behaviour: “Lying by omission.”

Trump not limited by any fear of being found out or not caring what is true or not is called “Lying by commission.”

You know what I will do in my tiny little insignificant political office when someone asks me what Trump might have said or done today? “He said X and it’s true, or he said Y and he lied.” I’m not afraid of losing my position, Maggie Haberman is.

A person who’s pay is dependent on ignoring what’s right in front of her. What do you call a person who covers for a liar?
