Can anyone help me? I’m too tired to do the research. I keep hearing from rightwingers—even retired military on Fox—that Obama “decimated” the military. But wasn’t that a self-inflicted wound due to the sequestration?

They’re lying. The Defense budget in 2010 was $721b. In 2015 it was $637b, that’s a 12% decrease. Keep in mind in 2011 the GAO couldn’t complete an audit of the DOD budget because “serious financial management problems at the Department of Defense (DOD) that made its financial statements unauditable”

There’s also the issue that we’re not actively engaged in large scale wars, which means spending isn’t going to be as high, either.

In other words, that’s not “decimated”.
