re: #240 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

I really liked “The Outlaw Josie Wells” for its incredible equine stunt work (and I am not any sort of horsie fan) and for the way they handled their old Colt cap-and-ball pistols (an neither am I any sort of weapons aficionado, but I found it fascinating)

It was interesting from a historical standpoint to see what was essentially light cavalry re-invent pistol tactics and prefer firearms over swords. This preference also pops up in other places like Mosby’s Rangers in the east. And in the movie there is the explicit contrast between Josie using pistols and Captain Terrill (Redlegs) with his saber.

I think Eastwood had a thing for featuring different styles of older firearms. His character in “Pale Rider” has a revolver for instance that reloads by replacing the entire cylinder.
