Jonathan Coulton: Down Today

re: #238 Gus

Rutgers is an odd case. It had a middling athletic program until Greg Schiano came in and turned around the football program. They did well for a few years - they spent tons on the football program, built/expanded the stadium, and then had a single down year where the team sucked, and the revenues dropped. The team rebounded, but now Schiano’s coaching in the NFL.

No idea if the team will be good going forward, but the costs are going to be borne by students who can ill-afford the costs at the state school regardless.

Schiano and the rest of the folks who set the school on this trajectory aren’t there to be held accountable.
