So you say, but … OK, setting aside copyright for a moment, consider this: I can make custom bases for 40K/WHFB figures for 5 to 10 cents apiece for the smalls. I pay $4.50 for ten by list. Depending on how much I do, at some point it pays off just in hobby work.

copyright - bases aren’t copyrightable. Well, they are and they aren’t and it’s ugly. If you scan and print GW’s figures you are breaking copyright. But the terrain - trees, walls, buildings, grounds, and all that - is probably not going to hit copyright.

And if you want real fun build hex-tiles. Dunno if you played with them but you can make some great ones with a printer for a crapload less than you pay. The interlock keys are easy. It adds up, and so though I push the cubex I’ll say the serious gamer should look hard at the cube just for the ancillary savings.

I do modded weapons, some sculpting of heads, back packs, wargear accessories, usually cobbled together from a variety of sources. It would be nice to be able to custom build the occasional arm, head or other miscellanous equipment rather than dig thru my spare parts and hope I can find the right bit to beat into submission.
