Said it at the tail end of the last thread, but it’s important to repeat, as darkly and depressingly appropriate it is to note on today of all days:

Racism remains keyed into America’s original sin of slavery, rooted in the very idea that ones skin color makes you inherently subservient and lesser than the ‘better’ skin colors. And we seem intent on backsliding in a very horrific way in a very short amount of time here, even in our mortal, lifetime scale rather than the longer, historical scale. We seem intent, as a country, to unlearn so many lessons in order to pay fealty to the idea that this is, now and forever, a white man’s country, and the rest just need to get the fuck out. I hate it, I hate it so fucking much, and yet it’s had to deny that a humongous segment of this country either wants it feverishly or would tolerate it long as they got to profit from it personally.

Big problem is that only a small chunk of that humongous segment can even see it. I sincerely believe that most of them sincerely believe that they ARE discriminated against, and that, as many of them will tell you ‘Racism was all but dead until Obama’. Trump appeals to them at a level below conscious thought, I think. He said he’d be their voice, and boy, is that true! It just turned out the voice is constantly whining that “It’s not fair!”

Seriously, people will tell you that it’s not about immigrants, it’s just about ILLEGAL immigrants, while complaining about ‘Press 1 for English’, or how they ‘refuse to assimilate’.
