That is granted. I think that’s why wingnutism seems to fester in Middle America - yeah, fishfolk might have the occasional run-in with a family of “others”, but the vast majority of people they encounter are pasty-white wingnuts just like themselves, so they can kinda coast along on their beliefs and not think too hard on the implications as it involves their non-white-male-wingnut “friends”.

Interestingly, Nebraska has the most refugees per capita of any state. It is why when the GOP here tried to move to limit Syrian refugees they got such a strong pushback and quickly gave up on that idea. (The GOP was using all the same fear-mongering tactics here: how do we know there isn’t a terrorist in the group, &c.)
