I’ve not read about Lincoln and the Jews but Lincoln was very progressive minded for his time about immigrants. He didn’t like the Know Nothings at all. Looks like a fascinating read. I never tire of reading about Lincoln because I really think he is our most iconic and simply our American President. Washington deserves his due but Lincoln is what one would call an American original. A man who made his own name rather than benefiting from his father’s which a lot of the early Presidents did.

Washington, especially, but I think Adams and Jefferson to lesser extents, were important because they were basically flying blind. There weren’t many examples in history to that point of an elected executive. There were some questionable moments (like the midnight appointments that led to CJ Marshall and eventually Marbury v Madison), but for the most part, they’re greatly responsible for many of the traditions and norms we took for granted until January 21, 2017.
