im giving her a break on this
i assume i know what she meant

we only have two real parties
it’s been that way for a long time
the republicans are the other party
regardless of their makeup or political slant

she could have just as well said ‘another party’ or two parties.

what she meant was a party that bought into the two party system - nationally loyal, accepting the democrats as legitimate, and willing to participate and compromise to get results.
